Let us all hear God’s calling as we invite you to join and be a part of the

Clergy Day.

GONE TO THE DOGS

No, the title of this post is not about dogs. “Gone to the Dogs” was the book published by Fr. Leonardo Estioko, SVD several years ago. It was a hit! But the title has no connection even with the content of this post. Wahaha.

I remember Fr. Nards with fondness. I was a college student in Christ the King before. Katatapos lang ng ozone disco tragedy and being the rector, he ordered that fire alarms be also put up in the seminary.

But since the fire alarms were installed in the hallways where seminarians usually pass, the naughty ones playfully turned it on, creating noise and commotion during siesta. Grabe! One seminarian even jumped out of the window from the third floor!

It was also made an alternate bell during rising to make sure seminarians really wake up.

Hehe. Those were the days…

Fr. Nards then ordered that nobody should make prank jokes on the fire alarms. For one month, the seminarians seemed to follow him.

However, one siesta time, the fire signal alarmed again. The seminarians were in panic! Some nerbyoso seminarians started to shout and packed their things.

Then one seminarian went upstairs and informed us: “Please don’t panic! There is no fire. The fire alarm button was only touched accidentally.”

And one of the seminary bully angrily asked, “…and who the hell touched the fire alarm button?”

The seminarian immediately answered: “Fr. Nards!”

I just want to inform everyone that recently, our supra-devoted philosopher and former rector of Christ the King was awarded the Most Outstanding Filipino SVD Professor in Philosophy by Faculty of Philosophy and the studentry of Christ the King Seminary. My special thanks to Frt. Dale Apo, SVD and seminarian Plen-Tsar for providing the pictures.

“You deserved it!” Said Fr. Donato and Fr. Festin as they congratulated Fr. Nards.

Fr. Nielo Cantilado, SVD and Fr. Pabs Tagura handed to Fr. Nards his award

The seminarians cheered for their beloved and dedicated professor. He was once my professor too!

Priests from other congregations also mobbed him to congratulate him.

Despite being in wheelchair, he still continues his classes with the seminarians. It is his ardent wish to die in the classroom.

Congratulations, Fr. Nards!

PHC SVDs HAVE SPOKEN

Yes, the SVD missionaries of the Philippine Central Province have spoken. On January 16-18, 142 priests and brothers gathered together at the Divine Word Seminary of Tagaytay for the Philippine Central Province General Assembly and chapter.

SVD gatherings like this have always been very colorful and inspiring for us seminarians. It is a great joy for us to be reunited with our former formators and brush elbows with our confreres. It is also an occasion to know each other’s apostolate, the lights and shadows of the ministry and not to mention, to celebrate missionary life. Yes, missionaries also drink and sing our hearts out.

But the highlight of the gathering which we seminarians really waited is the election of the Provincial and his Council. It was held in the afternoon of the second day. They started with the singing of Come, Holy Spirit before casting their votes.

The SVD missionaries of the Philippine Central Province have finally spoken. Fr. Nielo Cantilado, SVD was elected Provincial. It was a sweeping victory which delighted all the confreres around. He got ¾ of the total votes of the assembly. Confreres were clapping their hands in approval. Then, Fr. Nielo came to the front and addressed his confreres: “Last time, I refused. But now, you have spoken. I accept the position.” Loud cheers were heard.

It can be remembered that Fr. Nielo was also a candidate for Provincial three years ago but he declined before the actual voting process. Fr. Pol Jaucian, SVD won the position and Fr. Nielo was elected Vice Provincial. A sudden twist came when Fr. Pol became the Bishop of Abra. So, Fr. Nielo assumed the position vacated by Fr. Pol, and now he is elected and he accepted it humbly. His landslide victory is indeed a gesture of confidence coming from the SVDs in the Central Province.

Also elected were: Fr. Jerome Marquez, SVD (Vice-Provincial); Fr. Wilfredo Saniel, SVD (Admonitor); Fr. Pablito Tagura, SVD and Fr. Bar Fabella, SVD (councilors).

Congrats Fr. Nielo and your Council! God bless!

Grace and peace in the Divine Word!
Recently, I am thinking of what can I contribute to making our SVD affairs reach as many confreres as possible. I have tried it in this blog but sometimes I have problems sending bulk mails. So, come up with this yahoo group so that it will be easier for me to send you informations regarding our important activities. Please click the picture and join the group. This will also help you to send informations and news to our confreres in the easiest possible way.

MY APPLICATION LETTER

My Application Letter

Christ the King Mission Seminary
E. Rodriguez Sr. Blvd. Quezon City

February 14, 2006

REV. FR. NIELO CANTILADO, SVD
The Provincial Superior
Catholic Trade Manila
1916 Oroquieta St., Corner Tayuman
Sta. Cruz, 1003 Manila

Dear Fr. Provincial:

Greetings in the Divine Word!

First and foremost, I would like to thank you for sending me to Christ the King Mission Seminary for my Regency Year. It is my great joy to have served Christ the King! My Regency program has opened me to the realities of the SVD missions. Here in Christ the King, I had the taste of the formation program, a little of school management, a glimpse of parish work, a meaningful involvement in media apostolate and a personalized cyber-correspondence through my website. Furthermore, the overwhelming presence of my confreres also became a rich training ground for me to learn many things from them. These wholesome exposures in different aspects of SVD missions proved to be potent grounds in enhancing further my human maturity, committed faith and professional competence. It has widened my horizons in life and made my love for the mission of the SVD deeper.

In this regard, I formally apply for the next stage of formation, which is Third Year Theology. I look forward to go back to Divine Word Seminary of Tagaytay to continue my theological studies.

May God bless you and your administration. I am always including you in my prayers.

Witness to the Word,

FRATER FELMAR C. FIEL, SVD
Regent – Christ the King Mission Seminary
