First Ever Fiel Clan Homecoming in Cebu

Text and Photo Credit: Amir Nasser dela Cruz Salamat

FINALLY, SIBONGA, HERE WE COME!

Most of the Fiel clan in the Philippines originated from the present town of Sibonga of the province of Cebu through our proto matriarch Maria Generosa Lucero y Diez who was sired by Felizardo Fiel. Few info were known of Generosa’s parents. They were Fortunato Estanislao Lucero y Veloso, the son of Elias Geronimo Lucero and Generosa Margarita Veloso of Parian, Cebu City and Justa Cristina Diez y Mirafuentes, the daughter of Prudencio Wenceslao Diez and Teotima Antonia Mirafuentes of visita de Sibonga of the town of Carcar.

Maria Generosa’s son was the great Fortunato Agustin Fiel y Lucero, our common Fiel ancestor in Sibonga. We will update you soon of the final venue in Sibonga.

Pls contact Fr. Felmar Castrodes Fiel, SVD or La Casa Real de Fitzgerald, our event organizer at +639420866111.

Congratulations to the all the passers of the Board Exam! I am happy that four of our students from the University of San Carlos made it to the top 10.

1. Karen Mae Calam

3. Fiona Cristy Lao

7. Anne Margaret Momongan

As a reward, the 4 topnotchers from the University of San Carlos will be given a lifetime “gift of education,” which means that they can nominate a scholar, who, in turn, may choose any course he/she wishes to enroll in at the school.“He/she will let one finish the program then nominate again for the rest of her life,” said Atty. Joan Largo, Dean of the College of Law, University of San Carlos-Cebu.

Christ the King House of Spirituality (Freinademetz Center)

The former Finnemann building inside the Christ the King Mission Seminary is now named Christ the King House of Spirituality (Freinademetz Center). It was blest and inaugurated last February 24, 2017. Fr. Nielo Cantilado, SVD, the outgoing Provincial Superior of the SVD Philippines Central Province, presided the blessing.

This new center is open for spiritual retreats and recollections, worship meetings and conferences, and many other religious activities. It is located inside the compound of Christ the King Mission Seminary, E. Rodriguez, Sr. Ave., Quezon City.

This building used to be the residence for the associate (young professionals), first year and second college seminarians of the Divine Word Missionaries. Today, the community of seminarians stays at the Buttenbruch Building of the Christ the King compound.

We thank the following SVD educational Institutions in the Central province for sponsoring the new house of spirituality:

1) St. Jude Catholic School of Manila,
2) Divine Word College of Legaspi City,
3) Divine Word College of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
4) Divine Word College of Calapan,
5) SVD Provincialate.

The renovation and refurbishment took 8 months to finish.

Truth: Blueprint of Media Practitioners

Fr. Roberto “Bobby” Ebisa, SVD

Congratulations Fr. Roberto Ebisa, SVD for having been elected as the new president of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas – Cebu Chapter! He is the manager of the DYRF 1215 Radyo Fuerza Cebu and Power FM 89.1 under the Word Broadcasting Corporation of the religious congregation Society of the Divine Word.

Fr. Bobby is from Barangay Tuyom, City of Carcar in Cebu, and was born on May 13, 1964. He is a Divine Word Missionary (SVD), having been ordained on December 8, 1993 at the Divine Word Seminar, Tagaytay City.
Prior to his departure for foreign mission, he studied his Masteral Degree in Development Communication at the University of the Philippines Los Baňos. He stayed at the Verbum SVD House of Studies, the official residence of the SVD missionaries who are studying at the UPLB.

In 1995, he was sent to Brazil and was stationed at the Amazon Region. Having found out that his mission area, the State of Para, was four times as big as the Philippines, he established a community radio to effectively bring the Gospel and the parish concerns down to the grassroots. His parish in the town of Alenquer covered 160 communities that were located far and in between each other—some were along the tributaries of the Amazon river, and some were in the mountain area. He personally trained volunteers for the production staff, and eventually produced a magazine program via Radio Ximango, which became a huge hit with the communities.

Radio work chased him as he was summoned back home from Brazil to guide as the General Manager of Radio Veritas Asia. This is the short wave radio station of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences based in Quezon City, Philippines (this is the International unit as there is the national or local unit called Radio Veritas Manila. The local unit is managed by the Archdiocese of Manila. However, both international and local stations were in the same compound during the Edsa Revolution of 1986) which broadcast 18 languages all over Asia– like Mandarin, Tamil, Telugo, Hindi, Burmese, Vietnamese– to name a few. He stirred various changes for Radio Veritas Asia particularly in the digitalization of its broadcast. He was at the helm of the said station for 6 years.

In 2012, the UPLB College of Development Communication conferred on him the award “Distinguished Alumni for Development Communication and Community Media.”

In 2014, he was assigned to the SVD Southern Province, and became House Admonitor of the St. Raphael Community at the University of San Carlos. His main work though is as General Manager of Word Broadcasting Corporation, with radio stations in Cebu City and Ormoc. He also teaches Broadcasting in the University of San Carlos in the Department of Communication, Languages and Literature.

During the International Eucharistic Congress 2016, he was part of the Media committee. The stations DYRF and Power FM were the official radio stations of the historic international event.
