USC at the Basilica Pilgrim Center

The Holy Child devotees during the 2:30 pm Novena Mass

The 2:30 pm Novena Mass at the Pilgrim Center of the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu was sponsored by the University of San Carlos. Fr. Dionisio Miranda, SVD, the President of the University presided the liturgical celebration in Cebuano language. More than 50 priests also concelebrated, more than half of them SVDs.

The homilist was Fr. Romy Cagatin, SVD, the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation-Integrated Development Incorporated (JPIC-IDC) coordinator of the Philippine SVD Southern Province.

There was a slight rain and suddenly the Pilgrim Center was filled with umbrellas.

This year’s theme for the celebration is “Sto. Niño: Inspiration of Renewed Disciples for the New Evangelization.” This is patterned after the pastoral thrust of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on the Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons.

I did not concelebrate. I was at the Media Center for the live coverage of the Holy Mass.
