In Background is Cecellen’s Humble Home

Several times in my facebook page Felmar’s Missionary Journey, I have given updates about this special child with hydrocephalus Cecellen Cenes, now 24.  In one of my regular visits, I was lucky to have documented her journey early that morning to her school, the Fama Elementary School. Guess what, she is now in the 6th grade!

Her aunt religiously brings her to school.

Her aunt religiously brings her to school.

Unknown to many, she was bed-ridden for 15 years. At 16, she requested her good aunt who loves her unconditionally, to send her to school. With a little amount of money, her aunt was able to afford a small nipa hut at the back of the school. At 16, and still in the first grade, she was just beginning to walk. It was a success story. The school fence became Cecellen and her aunt’s silent witness of going to the school together. Later on, she could carry her weight, do house chores like laundry, cooking and even cleaning the house. And oh,  did I tell you she could even sing, with confidence!

One time, I asked her why she wanted to go to school. She answered innocently, “Gusto nako mahimong tindera.” She said she wanted to own a sari-sari store and personally manage it. That is why, she goes to school to learn how to do addition and subtraction.

My heart melts at the simplicity of this child.

Their house is only at the back of the school

Their house is only at the back of the school
