Fr. Julio Barbieto, SVD was a person of humor. His jokes are contagious! One time, in our visit to Villa Cristo Rey, he shared to us a song which he composed and made us laugh until we already cried in joy:

Sa mata ng duling
Lahat tayo ay dalawa
Ha-ha-ha, Ha-ha-ha, Ha-ha-ha

Habang may duling
Hindi ka nag-iisa.
Joke only. Hehehe, Hehehe.

I welcome contributions! Anecdotes must be funny, true stories of SVD missionaries working in the Philippines or Pinoy SVD missionaries working in any part of the globe. Contributions may be forwarded to fielsvd@yahoo.com

Fr. JB is the grand uncle of my husband Dominic. He officiated at our wedding and everyone commented it was the most personalized wedding they have ever attended.

His words are so full of wit and wisdom that we always see to it that we drop by the Pink Sisters when we go to Baguio. You should have seen his collection of pictures of celebrities who came to give him a call. But wait.. he disappears for a while to return with a bag of MMs or Hershey chocolates.

I remember how proud the people of Abra were when he celebrated his golden sacerdotal anniversary. The streets were lined up with chalices cut out of bond paper. True enough, the life of the party was Fr. JB.

When we visited him at the Christ the King, he jokingly said, had he known the facilities were excellent, he would have retired earlier. He cautioned us though if we had “magnets” in our possesion because he has a pacemaker. To all this, he always say everything in jest.

Oh how everyone loves him.
