Two great SVDs are in the news these days…makes me proud to have dedicating confreres like them. My deepest congratulations:
1) Fr. Antonio M. Pernia, SVD – Ateneo de Manila University conferred the traditional university award to him, along with four other servant leaders. The traditional university awards recognize entities or individuals who embody the highest ideals of the Ateneo — servant-leadership, excellence, commitment and love of country. The Ateneo de Manila University website said of him:
“BUKAS PALAD AWARD in memory of FR. MANUEL PEYPOCH, S.J.
in recognition of his leadership in preserving
the charism and ministry of St. Arnold Janssen,
founder of the Society of the Divine Word,
in the changing times of the millennium.
He is the first Asian Superior General of Societas Verbi Divini (SVD),
one of the biggest international religious orders in the world.
As one of the top religious superiors in Rome,
he highlighted the Filipino presence in the global missionary work.”

2. Fr. Ewald Dinter, SVD – the Inquirer magazine article “The Many Faces of the Teacher” by Ching Jorge announced Fr. Dinter as finalist of the search for the teacher that best represents the nobility of the teaching profession and who garners the inspiration not only of his students but also of each person and life that he encounters. The search and the careful selection of each year’s nominees and finalists have become a major program of Bato Balani Foundation Inc. (BBFI), which launched its advocacy campaign for the “Many Faces of the Teacher” in 2003. The article says,
“Fr. Ewald Dinter, SVD from Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro,
has devoted 40 years of his life to education and development in Mindoro.
He has lived among the Mangyan tribal people,
who see him as their mentor and father figure.
He travels as much as 19 hours,
sometimes on foot,
to reach his Mangyan students.”

ang galing talaga ng mga SVDs! No wonder you are the biggest male congregation in the Philippines! hehehe bigger than the jesuits…
Hello,
Congrats, to the Society! I can remember that I almost entered the priestly vocation due to a very holy and inspiring priest, Fr. Dondon SVD, who almost convinced me to enter the priesthood by his example.
Anyway, I just want to ask though, when will Societas Verbi Divini priests begin celebrating the Mass celebrated by it’s venerable founder Father St. Arnold Janssen viz. the Tridentine Mass (but this time according to the Missal of John XXIII), as directed by Pope Benedict’s Summorum Pontificum?
Instavrare Omnia In Christo.
Congratulations to the SVDs!
You’re truly a blessing to the Church!
Congratulations to these exemplary men-of-missions and to the SVD family!Truly, they are living witnesses of the Living Word…
just wonderin’: why there is no dominican awardee. it seems JESUITS favor the SVDs. hehe. joke lang.
